12 Reasons to Start Blogging Today

The following are 12 reasons to start a blog if you are currently unemployed and looking for a job.

1. Get exposure to peers, managers, and recruiters. Having a blog shows that you are passionate about your topic.

2. Practice writing. You will become a better writer the more you do it. You don’t have to be an English major to show that you have communication skills.

3. To learn more about your field. Being on the hook to write a blog gives you the impetus to look for stories and information you wouldn’t normally.

4. Gain credibility with your peers. They will see that you have a blog and engage in conversation with you about topics of interest. It is possible they will read your blog before you interview, so it gives a natural starting point for conversation.

5. Become published. Gradually as you build up knowledge, you may want to share that information in a single e-book.

6. Kick-start a new career. There’s nothing that says you have to know everything about a subject to start blogging about it. The act of having to write a blog will encourage you to find out more on your topic.

7. Find a job. You can use a blog to find a job. You could be so bold as to make a blog about finding a job at your ideal company, or be less obvious.

8. Make money. Many people make money from a blog. Don’t expect it to be a primary source of income for some time. Build a following and see where it goes.

9. To remember things. Many people will blog about topics so that they can remember them later. If you know you blogged about a recipe you know where you can find it later.

10. To come up with ideas. Having a conversation with your audience can enable you to come up with new and interesting ideas in your chosen niche. This will look very good to potential employers.

11. To get solutions to your problems. You don’t always have to be the person with all of the answers. You can ask questions and bring the answers together for everyone.

12. To vent. This is the least favored reason to blog. If you are comfortable with it then it can be very rewarding. Remember though that everything you write will exist on the web forever.
